Unfortunately i don't know more. It is also not 100% clear if the Cristescu book refers to the Enigma and which model.Christos T.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04246906263926130737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3335175720102608134.post-73335114056933377792012-11-04T13:14:17.888-08:002012-11-04T13:14:17.888-08:00Do you know more about the use of Enigma in Romani...Do you know more about the use of Enigma in Romania?
I've found nothing on Google, after an extensive search which took me a few days...
Up to now, related to this subject, I only have two pieces of information:

1. A book, written in Romanian and never translated, called Eugen Cristescu - the Marshal's Man of Secrets (Omul de taină al Mareşalului - Eugen Cristescu, Ed. Elion, 2005), in which we find, at page 178, a declaration made by Cristescu:

"Because we were already engaged in the war, the only possibility for equipment was that imported from Germany. Only after making extremely insistent requests, I have obtained from the Abwehr more stations of wireless telegraphy, together with some cipher machines - very practical, easy to handle and safe in terms of the cipher's security. With these machines one could encipher with 40.000 keys, which offered sufficient guarantees of discretion." (Could he be talking about Enigma G?)

2. http://cryptocellar.web.cern.ch/cryptocellar/pubs/EnigmaInSpain.pdf , pages 14-15.

"The other belligerant nations among the Axis powers, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia, also received the Heeres Enigma, Ch 11f. ("Enigma Machines in Foreign Countries", TICOM translation of German document addressed to OKH / Chef H Rüst u. BdE / AHA / In 7 IV and dated Berlin, 3 Sept. 1943; TICOM / DF - 190 - AM. The document is part of [13] that was released under a NSA FOIA request. [13] Hammarborg, A. 1954 "Catalog of Enigma Cipher Machine Wirings". Technical Information Division, Bibliographic Research Branch, June 1954. Top Secret FROTH. Released under FOIA.
